Personal freedom talk only goes one way
Republican talk about “personal freedom” always cracks me up, because it seems like that freedom only counts if it benefits people just like them. The second anyone outside their circle actually gets some help - like a pregnant woman needing a bench to sit on at a subway stop, or someone using SNAP (food stamps) to buy groceries - suddenly it’s all about how those people don’t deserve it. I see MAGA folks actually cheering when city benches get ripped out just to stop homeless people from resting, even if that means elderly people or moms-to-be have to stand around waiting for the train. And don’t even get me started on their obsession with what food people on assistance are allowed to buy, as if someone else getting a box of cereal somehow makes their own life worse. The whole vibe is, “if someone else has less, maybe I’ll have more,” which is just so gross.
