Supremacy spin keeps national happiness high
It actually blows my mind every time I see Israel ranked near the top of those global happiness indexes. You’d think a country where air raid sirens are a regular part of life, with Hamas and other existential threats always looming, and a national history full of generational trauma, would be miserable. But no - instead, Israelis keep reporting some of the highest levels of happiness in the world. I guess it starts to make sense if you look at who actually holds the power: you’ve got a significant chunk of the population, especially the ultra-religious and hardcore nationalists, who genuinely believe they’re God’s chosen, entitled to everything, and blessed just to wake up every day. For them, pushing out anyone who isn’t like them - Palestinians, Arab citizens, even secular or left-wing Jews - is just part of the plan. Meanwhile, the US is pumping billions of dollars in military aid into Israel, and American taxpayers are footing the bill for Israeli healthcare and college, while people here in the States are struggling just to afford groceries. There’s zero accountability for any of it. And the wildest part? Polls out of Israel show a shocking number of Jewish Israelis openly supporting the forced expulsion—or even the killing—of the Arab minority inside Israel. One 2025 Haaretz poll found that 56% of Jewish Israelis favor transferring Israeli Arabs out of the country, and nearly half of those even support killing them. When you grow up with nonstop propaganda, getting told from birth you’re always the victim and always justified, I guess you end up pretty happy as long as you feel like you’re “winning.” Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the US during the Iraq War era. Americans were high on “unity,” waving flags and cheering for war while hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died. Mainstream media was all-in on the propaganda, and anyone who spoke out was branded anti-American. People felt safe, powerful, and weirdly content, as long as they didn’t have to confront what was actually happening to other people. I guess supremacy and delusion are a hell of a drug when it comes to national happiness.
