Presidential standards buried under a red cap

Trump’s hat just sums up how far the presidency has fallen - the guy’s literally in the Oval Office, sitting behind the Resolute Desk, wearing this tacky red cap that basically screams “I’m right about everything” to the world. Not even Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush would’ve dreamed of pulling a stunt like that, but now we’ve got a president who looks like an extra from a bad reality show and acts like he’s the smartest man alive because he says so on his own merch. The orange face, the gold-plated everything, the hair flopping everywhere, shirt half unbuttoned, no tie, eyes barely open like he’s hiding from a hangover - it’s like he rolled out of bed, slapped on a hat to cover the mess, and decided that’s good enough for running the country. And of course, he’s not just wearing it for himself, he’s pushing it as a product to his followers, turning the White House into his own personal casino and infomercial. I mean, imagine showing up to your job with a bright red hat covered in your own slogans, bragging nonstop about how you “know everything,” looking like you just lost a bet with your barber, and expecting everyone to treat you like a genius. You’d get laughed out of the building. But somehow, with Trump, this is just normal now. The same country that torpedoed Howard Dean’s presidential run in 2004 because he yelled too loud at a rally now shrugs when the commander-in-chief looks and acts like he’s auditioning for the world’s worst reboot of The Apprentice. The bar isn’t just lower than it was when Jimmy Carter or Bush Sr. were in office - it’s been buried six feet under. What blows my mind is how nobody in power even blinks at this. The stuff Trump gets away with - the self-promotion, the total lack of taste or shame, the open contempt for the office - would’ve been unthinkable not that long ago. It’s like people just decided that standards didn’t matter anymore, and the presidency is now fair game for anyone willing to treat it like a circus. We used to hold our leaders to something resembling dignity and respect. Now we’ve got a president who treats the country like a set for his own show, and the only thing lower than the bar is everyone’s expectations.
